Are you looking to create a Sitemap in WordPress but you’re not sure how? Sitemaps help your site get indexed by Google and this means getting better ranks on your key terms. Using WordPress, there are a couple of plugins I’d recommend to create a sitemap for SEO that will include an automated sitemap builder. The plugins are:
- Yoast SEO – underneath the premium plugin button there is a link to download the free version, or you can search within WordPress plugins to install it directly.
- All in One SEO
In Yoast SEO, go to General > Click the Features tab. There is a toggle for XML sitemaps that is automatically on. Just check this setting and you can click the info button to see the sitemap.
Once you have checked sitemaps are on, you can see where they are. Click the link to the right of the sitemap option in Yoast SEO above. Next action – add the sitemap URLs to Google Search Console:
- Login to Google Search Console.
- Go to the relevant site from the URL drop down.
- Select “Sitemaps” from the left indexing menu.
- Copy and paste the sitemap URL into the section “Add a new sitemap”.
Google will now have easy access to your site maps and which will help your site get indexed.
